The train journey from Kandy to Ella, passing through verdant mountain country, tea gardens and waterfalls, compared to its size, Sri Lanka has perhaps the largest number of waterfalls, over 400, in the world. You will be able to view some. A wild life safari at the premier National Park Yala known for its, elephant, leopard, bear and deer population among others, to excite you. Travelling along the South West coast, blue waters of the Indian Ocean will be your companion with interesting stops at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, the 17th century Dutch fortifies city of Galle, the beautiful Unawatuna beach and a slow boat ride on the Ramsar site, Madu Ganga.

We proceed to the hill capital Kandy with a stop at Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage to be delighted by watching misplaced babies and adult elephants being fed and bathed. Check into hotel.

Day 2 - KANDY | ELLA
After early breakfast we visit the golden roofed Dalada Maligawa (temple of the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha). We observe the traditional Kandyan art and architecture of the building and witness the morning ‘Pooja’ (offering) accompanied by Kandyan drumming. The sanctity enfolds us… Kandy the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, ceded to the British in 1815. It is a picturesque city surrounded by mountains, girdled by the Mahaweli river and a lake as the centrepiece.

We then proceed to Peradeniya station to board the train at 12.30 hrs (as per present schedule) to Ella. It is a comfortable, beautiful train journey taking us through spectacular scenery at a leisurely pace. Our phones and cameras get busy! Light Lunch on board. Our chauffeur/guide awaits us with our luggage on arrival at Ella station to take us to the hotel.

This morning we are ready to explore one of the most enchanting places in the island steeped in romantic legend. Ella is situated at an elevation of 1,041 metres above sea level. The area has a rich bio-diversity dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Surrounded by mist covered hills, cloud forests and tea gardens. Ideal for trekking. We trek to the Ella Gap which gives a panoramic view down to the Southern plains of Sri Lanka. A pleasurable, invigorating exercise. We relax sipping a freshly brewed cup of tea at the tea plantation & factory.

The picturesque Ravana Ella falls is about 30 foot high and can be observable from the main road. The beauty of the falls lies in the fact that it is located against the strikingly beautiful backdrop of mountains and valleys. The water gushes down over many stairs to create a breathtaking scenario. Connected to the Indian epic Ramayana, it is believed that Ravana, king of Sri Lanka at the time abducted Rama’s queen Sita from India and kept her hidden behind this waterfall.

Day 4 - ELLA | YALA
An exciting day dawns. We leave for Yala National Park the premier Wild Life Sanctuary in the island. Check in to the hotel. Evening Safari in Yala. We enter a whole new world where nature has largely stayed still. Yala boasts of a growing leopard population, herds of elephants and spotted deer, bear among others.

Morning we leave for Hikkaduwa, lovely journey hugging the southern coastline. On the way we observe the striking silhouettes of stilt fishermen against the blue green sea at Weligama. Next we pass Unawatuna beach, placid deep blue sea and a fine reef for snorkelling, very touristic and very inviting amidst lush green vegetation. We also have a short tour of the 17th century Dutch fortified walled city of Galle, very palpable atmosphere. Check into the hotel. A relaxing evening watching evening shadows descending on the beach.

Morning we are ready to proceed to Colombo. Hikkaduwa is famous for its coral reef. A short boat ride to view corals. On the way, a visit to a turtle hatchery at Kosgoda where turtle eggs are collected, hatched, baby turtles nurtured, numbered and released to the sea.

Visit Balapitiya for Boat safari. Madu Ganga is one of nature’s fascinating creations. A lagoon declared a Ramsar Site with hundreds of islands providing an idyllic setting to observe the slow paced life style of the river folk, the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.

Leave to Colombo. Check into the hotel. Indulge in some last minute shopping and have a short sightseeing tour of the metropolis.
