TOUR OVERVIEW
This privately guided tour covers Sri Lanka’s abundant natural beauty, culture and wild life – an unforgettable eco-adventure. Sri Lanka is a bio-diversity hot spot and 14% of the total land area consist of sanctuaries, national parks and reserves protected by law. Tour highlights are climbing Adam’s Peak where the sunrise seen from the summit is wondrous, luxury camping at Big Game Parks, and whale watching tours from Mirissa.
Day 1 - NEGOMBO | WILPATTU | ANURADHAPURA
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport you will be met by our representative and taken to your hotel in Negombo to use a day room to freshen up. After breakfast your journey begins to Anuradhapura. Optional en-route 4wd Jeep Safari at Wilpattu National Park. Check in at the hotel. In the evening tour of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first capital dating back to 5thc B.C. including visits to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi – the world’s oldest authenticated tree venerated by Buddhists, Isurumuniya Viharaya and Ruwanweli Maha Saya – by far the most beautiful dagoba its white dome shining like a pearl in the arid landscape.

Day 2 - ANURADHAPURA | DAMBULLA
After Breakfast proceed to Dambulla which would be your base to explore the vast cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. Dambulla cave temples, 1st c. B.C. an isolated rock mass embellished with murals and statues of the Buddha is closest to you.

Day 3 - DAMBULLA | MINNERIYA | POLONNARUWA | DAMBULLA
After breakfast proceed to Polonnaruwa 11th& 12th c medieaval capital scattered with shrines and monuments which shows an interesting blend of South Indian and Sinhala Buddhist art and architecture. Visits to the evocative stone sculptures of Gal Viharaya, Royal Palace, Quadrangle, Kiri Vihara & Nissankalatha Mandapaya (floral stone pillars). You are offered a delightful experience at Minneriya to watch ‘The Gathering’ an awesome wildlife spectacle. Over 150 elephants, young, old and babies converge to enjoy the lake with receding water levels to play, romance and have fun! You will travel in the evening in a 4wd drive jeep for this safari at Minneriya National Park.

Day 4 - DAMBULLA | SIGIRIYA | DAMBULLA
Morning visit Sigiriya (5thc.A.D) an impressive rock fortress, a royal citadel of a king for 18 years. A part from the great rock, the surroundings, just gets you… so green, so serene, and peaceful amidst hundreds of visitors every day. Exciting climb to the summit, an area of nearly one hc., to the site of the palace which commands a magnificent view of the royal water gardens, on par with the best of the ancient world. On the way up encounter the famous Sigiriya frescoes, heavenly maidens painted on a rock pocket.

Afterwards free to indulge in elephant rides at Habarana or spend at leisure…

Day 5 - DAMBULLA | KANDY
After breakfast, proceed to Kandy via Matale, the aromatic spice route visiting a Spice Garden en route. Check in to hotel. Visit the Dalada Maligawa (temple of the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha). Observe the traditional Kandyan art and architecture and witness devotees in meditative veneration with sweet smelling flowers, to the Buddha. After a short tour of beautiful Kandy with several Buddhist temples of different character and charm, shop for exquisite Kandyan Jewellery and handicrafts.

Evening enjoy a traditional cultural show with resounding drum beats.

Day 6 - KANDY | PINNAWALA | KANDY
After early breakfast, leave for the elephant orphanage at Pinnawela, established to care and nurture abandoned babies, injured and displaced elephants. Return to Kandy visiting Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya.

Day 7 - KANDY | ADAM’S PEAK
After early breakfast, proceed to Adams Peak. Check in to hotel.

Start climbing to the summit of the mountain known as ‘Sri Pada by the Sri Lankans. Located on the western edge of Sri Lanka’s central massif and looms dramatically over the surrounding hills, which are covered with lush, green jungle. This area is known as the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, and is renowned for its abundant bird life and butterflies.

Climbing Adam’s Peak normally takes between four to five hours, depending on your stamina! Season is from December to May. Climbing is done during daylight hours to see the spectacular sunrise at dawn from the summit.

Day 8 - ADAMS PEAK | HORTON PLAINS | YALA
After early breakfast, proceed to Horton Plains National Park. A trek on the mist clad windswept saddle, it is an expanse of grasslands, rare and beautiful plants and ice cold streams. The trek is exhilarating passing Baker’s Falls and ‘Chimmni Pool’ to ‘World’s End’ – a sheer drop of 3700ft offering a fabulous view of the tea plantations and all the way up to the southern coastline. The scenic beauty and atmosphere is incredible.

Proceed to Yala National Park.

Day 9 - YALA
Breakfast at campsite. After breakfast a 4WD jeep safari at Yala. Beautiful terrain and boasts of a growing leopard population, herds of elephants and spotted deer, bear and innumerable varieties of birds among others.

Leave for Mirissa, the southern centre for whale watching visiting a stilt fishing village at Mirissa. Check in to hotel.

Day 10 - MIRISSA | BENTOTA
Early morning Whale Watching Tour at Mirissa (starts at 6.15 a.m, you need to leave from hotel at 6 am) – Optional. Proceed to Bentota visiting Galle, the 17th century Dutch walled city with an air of old world charm.

Day 11 - BENTOTA | DEPARTURE
After breakfast free for relaxing on the beach or to indulge in water sports or a boat ride on the Bentota river (optional).

Check out after dinner and proceed to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure.
