Day 1 - NEGOMBO
Ayubowan-may you be blessed with long life! With this beautiful traditional greeting we are welcomed to the jewel like island of Sri Lanka. We are met and greeted by TLJ chauffeur guide and taken to our hotel.

We are in Negombo, close to the main city, Colombo. It is a characteristic fishing town, we are engulfed with the spirit of the sea and look forward to scrumptious seafood. We visit the fish market as the allure is irresistible! Fisherwomen mostly dressed in cloth and long sleeved black jackets typical of Negombo, selling with gusto, catch our attention. Out-rigger canoes and catamarans bring seer, skipjack, herring, mullet, promfret while lobster and prawns are from the lagoon. Apart from seafood, Negombo has a charm of its own with narrow streets and pretty Catholic churches dotting the area.

We are treated to a typical ‘Negombo style’ dinner and a taste of the local alcoholic drink ‘Arrack’!

The nostalgia of the British empire builders is reflected in Nuwara Eliya – buildings, gardens, landscaping, names etc., First introduced by them, terraced Tea gardens with mist hovering above and colorfully clad tea pluckers meandering on the slopes, plucking two leaves and a bud is a delightful sight. We may even pluck our own leaves for the ‘cuppa’. We explore Nuwara Eliya, the lake, the 18-hole over 100 years old Golf Course, purchase the world famous Ceylon Tea and visit Horton Plains National Park.

Clad in mist, located on a high windswept saddle Horton Plains National Park is an expanse of misty grasslands, rare and beautiful plants and ice cold streams. The trek is exhilarating passing Baker’s Falls and ‘Chimmni Pool” to ‘World’s End’-a sheer drop of 3700ft offering a fabulous view of the tea plantations and all the way up to the southern coastline. The scenic beauty and atmosphere is incredible.
